INITIAL IDEA
My initial idea was to make a bed sheet look like there was a human under it following on from my stage 5 critical link of Sophie Calle's 'Hotels'. I tried to execute this idea by using mod podge to harden the fabric into a human body position. I had already used mod podge to harden fabric in my stage 5 developments on a smaller scale.
However, this initial idea did not work as the fabric didn't harden enough to hold the shape of the body. Instead I decided to look at how fabric can make a trace instead of the trace the human body leaves on the fabric. This is where the motif for the clay developed from.
TEST CLAY
To achieve this textured effect on the clay I imprinted it using fabric by folding and manipulating it in multiple different ways onto the clay.
FINAL PIECE LAYOUT
For my final piece I made clay developments imprinted using fabric. They will be displayed in the exhibition using the 4x6 grid as seen bellow.
